One. What is your study all about?
Answer: Our study investigates the biodegradation potential of crude enzymes extracted from cacao pod husks, Zophobas morio or superworms, and banana peels for HDPE. We compare their enzyme activity and HDPE weight-loss performance to determine which source shows the greatest potential for HDPE degradation.
Two. Why did you choose this topic?
We chose this topic because HDPE is widely used due to its durability and chemical resistance, but these same properties make it difficult to naturally degrade. We wanted to explore a biological approach using naturally available enzyme sources as a potential way to address persistent plastic waste.
Three. What is HDPE?
Answer: HDPE stands for High-Density Polyethylene. It is a durable and chemically resistant plastic commonly used for products such as bottles, containers, packaging, and other plastic materials.
Four. Why is HDPE difficult to degrade?
Answer: HDPE has a strong and stable polymer structure and is highly resistant to chemical breakdown. Because of these properties, it can persist in the environment for very long periods.

Answer: Biodegradation is the breakdown or transformation of a material through biological agents, such as microorganisms or enzymes. In our study, we investigate whether crude enzymes from our selected biological sources can contribute to the breakdown of HDPE.

Seven. Why did you choose Zophobas morio? Answer:
We selected Zophobas morio, commonly known as the superworm, because of its biological relevance to plastic-associated degradation research and its potential enzymatic activity. Our study specifically investigates the enzymatic potential of its crude extract.
Eight. Why did you choose cacao pod husks?
Cacao pod husks are an agricultural by-product that is commonly discarded. We wanted to investigate whether this waste material could serve as a potential source of enzymes while also exploring its possible application in plastic waste management.
Nine. Why did you choose banana peels?
Banana peels are another readily available agricultural waste material. We investigated whether their enzyme content could contribute to HDPE biodegradation.
