These definitions are considered standards as they are recognized by governments, international media, think tanks and by organizations in the business of disaster risk reduction and management. The Red Cross and the Philippines' National Disaster Coordinating Council echo the definitions crafted by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction.
