UNIT TWO Understanding Perspectives: Analysis of Selected Primary Sources in Philippine History
Historical sources determine historical facts. They are analyzed and interpreted by the historian to produce a historical narrative. This unit will look into various primary sources, evaluate these documents' content in terms of its historical value as well as examine the context of their production.
This section will include the topic on content and contextual analysis of selected primary sources in Philippine history. The primary sources to be examined in this unit are Antonio Pigafetta's First Voyage Around the World, Fray Juan de Plascencia's Customs of the Tagalogs, Emilio Jacinto's Kartilya ng Katipunan, Felix Laureano's Recuerdos de Filipinas, eighteen ninety-eight Declaration of Independence, Alfred McCoy's Philippine cartoons: Political Caricature of the American Era (nineteen hundred to nineteen forty-one), and Corazon Aquino's speech before the U.S. Congress.
