A BASIC KNOWLEDGE of human anatomy and physiology is important so that you may understand the body in health and disease. Anatomy is the science dealing with the structure of the living organism. Physiology is the study of the function of the body and its parts. In this unit we describe human anatomy from the smallest functioning unit of life (the cell) to the most complex of body systems. A fundamental understanding of basic human anatomy and physiology will provide you with the necessary building block for many areas in dentistry.
