Anatomy:

Twenty branches from bipolar cells in olfactory epithelium.

Fibres pass through cribriform plate, synapse with mitral and tuft cells.

Axons continue as olfactory tract, medial and lateral striae, primary olfactory cortex.

Function:

Carries smell sensation to olfactory bulb, cortex (uncus, periamygdaloid, prepyriform).
