Why should social workers be interested in social change?

- Social work promotes social change, problem-solving in human relationships, and the empowerment and liberation of people to enhance well-being. Utilizing theories of human behavior and social systems, social work intervenes at the points where people interact with their environment. Principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental to social work.

SOCIAL CHANGE IS:

- Changes in human interactions and relationships that transform cultural and social institutions, occurring over time with profound and long-term consequences.

- Significant alteration of social structures (patterns of action and interaction), including consequences and manifestations of such structures embodied in norms (rules of conduct), values, and cultural products or symbols.

- A shift in the characteristics of culture and society.
